Quake Quest: Unleashing Innovations In Seismology Through Arts, Engineering, and Research

Who Can Join?

Groups of three (3) Senior High School students and (1) faculty each team

Expected Outcome

Participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of seismic phenomena and enhance their research skills by creating scientific projects based on the archived seismic data provided by UPRI, enriching their academic and/or professional knowledge with valuable real-world research experience.

Timeline

In a span of 3 months, teams of high school students will compete to produce the best scientific project that utilizes the seismic data archive of UPRI’s public seismic network. The competition has two simultaneous events: the Major Quest and the Minor Quest.

This major quest will be divided into 4 stages spread out within the time duration: crash course series, project proposal, paper submission, and project presentation In addition, a series of minor quests will be interspersed between the different stages of the major quest. These are intended to make the competition more fun and engaging for the participants. Every quest submission will be scored by points, and a leaderboard ranking the different teams based on their live points will be made available online.
